To Kill a Mockingbird summary chapter 1
In the first chapter we get to learn about four charters, Atticus, the father, Jem, the only son, Scout the only daughter, Dill which is a new comer in the neighborhood, Boo Radley, Mr Radely, Mrs. Radley Nathan Radley, and Calpurnia. Jem, Scout and Dill seem to be the main characters of the story. Then the story of the Radleys are talked a lot about in the first chapter, then how they are a creepy of a family they are and how Mr Radley took his son, Boo Radley, in his house instead of prison then ladder Boo Radley stabbed his dad. Dill, Scout and Jem all quickly became friends and acted out books and stories.
To Kill a Mockingbird summary chapter 2
In the second chapter we learn the Scout and Jem go to school and Jem doesn't allow Scout to play with him at lunch. We learn about Mrs. Caroline and her new teaching method that makes it hard for Scout to learn. Scout as we found out is literate and the teacher doesn't want Scout to be. Then Mrs. Caroline has to learn about to the people in this town and they all work and who's poor and who's not. Scout invited Walter Cunningham to dinner because of he is poor.

Walter Cunningham came over for dinner he eats a lot. Atticus, the father, treats him with hospitality and asks him about his home life. Walter Cunningham to busy pouring syrup on his meal that he doesn't give answers. The Cal yells at Scout for judging how Walter eats and then Scout starts to hate Cal. Then Mrs. Caroline in class get's scared by a kid in the corner and little Charlie little tries to comfort the teacher. Then the kids name is Burris Ewell and he is very dirty, the teacher gives him soap to clean himself and the Burris yells at the teacher till she cries. Thus concludes chapter 3.
To Kill a Mockingbird summary chapter 4
In the fourth chapter of To Kill a Mockingbird school ends for Scout and Jem. Scout gets out before Jem so on Scouts walk back to school she sees something shiny in a tree and she goes to investigate. There's gum in the tree and scout starts to chew on it after a while. Then when Jem get's home he makes scout spit out the gum. Later Dill comes back and tell the story of his adventures back to here. The trio all starts to play a game but scout because it's about the Radleys and it scares her. The the Atticus gets mad at the kids for playing with the scissors. The scouts wants them all to stop playing thus concludes chapter 4.

In the fifth chapter of To Kill a Mockingbird we learn that Dill asked Scout to marry him in the summer before, but now Dill is ignoring her. We meet a new character, Miss Maudie, she is a very nice old lady that bakes cakes for the three kids. The Boo Radleys real name is Arthur and that he is still alive. Dill and Jem want to send him a letter to ask him out to ice cream to know him.

In the sixth chapter of To Kill a Mockingbird Jem and Scout go over to Dill’s to say their goodbyes. But Jem and Dill go on a walk and Scout becomes concerned. We learn that Jem and Dill want to go to the Radley house to see Boo Radley. But when they go to see him they get caught and get shot at. The shot was fired in the air but the three kids run off. When running they have to go through a fence and Jem’s pants get stuck and he loses them. When Atticus asked about Jem’s pants they make a lie about poker, thy get in trouble and go home. Later in the night Jem gets his pants.

In the seventh chapter for To Kill a Mockingbird, we learn that when Jem went back to get his pants from the Radley's house. But when he went back to the house he found his pants all folded and stitched back together. Then there were more things in the knot-hole like gum and a knife. But one day when they got to the tree hole they found carved soap figures that looked just like them. They both get freaked out but the continue on their day. The hole gets plugged up and both of the children are sad. Thus concludes chapter seven.
To Kill a Mockingbird summary chapter 8
In the eighth chapter of To Kill a Mockingbird the chapter starts off with Scout and Jem experiencing their first snow fall. They make a snow man out of snow and mud, later in the night Atticus wakes up the kids to get them out because Mrs. Maudie's house is on fire. When the kids run out of the house, all the men in the town are awake and fighting the fire. Scout and Jem move off to the side and are scared due the flames. Later when the fire has died down, Atticus goes over to the kids to check on them and Scout has a blanket on her not knowing how it got there. That concludes chapter 8.
To Kill a Mockingbird summary chapter 9
In the ninth chapter of To Kill a Mockingbird it starts off with Christmas. Scout and Jem run down the stairs and they both get what they want, a pelt gun. Then Atticus, Jem and Scout go down to Finch's landing for Christmas, they give presents to the family and Scout and Jem have to talk to their boring cousin. Their cousin, Francis, is very mean to Scout and insulting her and Dill. We learn that Scout wants to marry Dill, so does that mean she likes him? Then the Francis say's that their dad Atticus is a "n-word lover" and brings shame onto the Finch name. Later on Francis pissed off Scout and Scout punched Francis. Uncle Jack got very mad at her and gave her a "lick". But Scout loves Uncle Jack a lot and forgives him. Also Jack stays with Scout for a week. Then when Scout, Jem, Uncle Jack and Atticus get back Uncle Jack talks to Scout about what happened and its a very emotional bond between the two. Jack and Atticus later in the night have a conversation about what happened and about what's going to happen. Concluding chapter nine.
To Kill a Mockingbird summary chapter 10
In the tenth chapter of To Kill a Mockingbird it started off with Scout saying that Atticus is old and kinda boring. She says that the kids at school get to brag about their dad but she’s doesn’t have anything to say because Atticus is a lawyer. Then Scout and Jem are our shooting and he says that they can shoot all the blue jays they want but it’s a sin to kill a mockingbird. Scout goes over the the neighbor, Miss Maudie’s house to talk. Scout says that everyone in the twin is old and her dad is boring, Miss Maudie tries to tell Scout about all the cool things Atticus can do but Scout remains bored of her father. Then later in the story the kid go out shooting but see a dog, they know the dog and the dog’s name is Tim Johnson. They tell Cal about to dog and Cal says it’s a mad dog and tells everyone including Atticus and the sheriff. Everyone rushes the close their doors and hides. Atticus and the sheriff drive over in a hurry and the sheriff is struggling with aiming. Atticus takes the gun and shoots the dog a little bit right of the dogs center head. Jem and Scout talk about the Tim Johnson and how Atticus and how he’s a good shot. Jem says that Scout shouldn’t talk about it. That concludes chapter 10.
To Kill a Mockingbird summary chapter 11
In the eleventh chapter of To Kill a Mockingbird it started off with meeting a new character called Mrs. Henry Lafayette Dubose. She is a very mean old Lady, but Atticus excuses her for being mean because she's ill. She calls out Scout and Jem when they are walking past her house, she bad mouths their Dad and the kids just walk by, they by some stuff and on their way back to town Jem thrashes her yard. Atticus finds out and makes Jem read to Mrs. Dubose for a month even though Jem doesn't want to do it. Then after the month and Jem is done reading, Atticus finds out that Mrs. Dubose died. Jem isn't really moved by it but does get something from from Mrs. Dubose. Therefore concluding chapter 11.

In the twelfth chapter of To Kill a Mockingbird Atticus has to go up to the states because of him being a lawyer and having to his job. Then Cal is watching over the children in the meantime. Cal takes the children to a church called First Purchase because it's the first thing the free slaves bought. Then when they get to First Purchase they run into Lula that doesn't like it that they're white people at the church. But besides that people are happy to have Scout and Jem Finch at the church. Then the church holds everyone in till they get 10 dollars for Tom Robson's wife and kids. Thus concludes chapter 12.

In the thirteenth chapter of To Kill a Mockingbird Aunt Alexandra comes to live with Scout, Jem and Atticus because it's time that Scout has a women in the house. Even though Cal is in the house. Aunt Alexandra becomes more involved in the Town of Maycome. It goes into depth about how Maycome came to be. Then Aunt Alexandra tells Scout how she should become more of a girl. Then we get to learn a little about the Finches and their past and about their family members. Aunt Alexandra tells Atticus to tell the kids to become what a Finch is and to be more of a lady or a gentleman. Jem and Scout start to become really sad about it and not wanting to grow up. Scout starts crying and runs to Atticus, for comfort. Thus concludes chapter 13.

In the fourteenth chapter of To Kill a Mockingbird we get to know that everyone isn’t liking the Finchs as much because of their Aunt Alexandra. Then Scout asks Atticus about what rape is and Atticus tells her what it is in a short way. Then we find out that Aunt Alexandra doesn’t like Cal really and the fact that she raised the children. Aunt Alexandra got in a fight with Atticus, Scout and Jem are kinda scared by that fact that they’ve never seen Atticus get into a fight. Then when Scout goes to bed and then gets in a fist fight with Jem about Jem being superior to scout. Atticus makes them go to bed and Scout gets scared of a snake getting under her bed. But it turns out that it’s Dill and Dill tells them a story about how he got there and we find out that his parents never really paid much attention to them. That concludes chapter 14.
To Kill a Mockingbird summary chapter 15
In the fithtenth chapter of To Kill a Mockingbird in the very beginning of the chapter we learn that Dill get's to stay with the Finches for awhile then has to go to his Aunt's that lives a few doors down. Then a few days after suspicion arose when Atticus took a the car and he never does. Jem and Scout wait till night and he leaves. They follow him and also pick up dill to see where he goes. They see the car at the county jail and Atticus sitting down and reading a paper on the bench at the entrance. A group of men driving up in a few cars and get out. Atticus gets up and puts his paper down, he starts to talk to the men and they ask him where he is. Meanwhile Jem, Scout and Dill get to the side of he building and hide in the shadows. The men start to get angry and reek of booz, so Scout runs out and sees that Mr Cunningham is in the crowd. She starts to talk to them and she makes the situation kind of awkward and they guys leave. A voice from the jail asks Atticus if they are gone. Atticus says yes, Mr Underwood was in a window. Which concludes chapter 15.
To Kill a Mockingbird summary chapter 16
In the sixteenth chapter of To Kill a Mockingbird everyone after that night where all the previous said events happen, the whole family over breakfast disused what had happened. Scout asked if those men where gonna hurt Atticus and Atticus said most likely yes. After the meal the trail was going to start. So Atticus went off the Court for the trail, Jem and Scout on their way to the court house, talked to Mrs. Maudie to see if she will come. Mrs. Maudie said no and Jem and Scout continued on their way. When they got to the Court house Jem and Scout saw three older men talking about the up coming and how Atticus was appointed to defended Tom Robinson. But Atticus also wanted to defend him so that's why everyone in town didn't really like him. Scout and Jem struggle to find a seat but then they see the one preacher from Cal's church and he invited them to sit with him. The trail starts. Which then concludes chapter 16.

In the seventeenth chapter of To Kill a Mockingbird the trail begins and Heck Tate is the first person called up. Atticus starts to question him if a doctor was called up but Tate said no. The daughter that was "rapped" was said to be seriously injured. Then more intense questioning happened. The Mr. Erwell came up to the stands for him to be questioned. He is the father of the girl who was "rapped". He is questioned and then Atticus wanted to question him. He asked Mr Erwell to see what hand he use for writing. So Mr Erwell wrote something down,m which was his name. Then we saw the Mr Erwell was left handed. Which then concludes chapter 17.
To Kill a Mockingbird summary chapter 18
In the eighteenth chapter of To Kill a Mockingbird Mayella Violet Ewell is called to the Stands for questioning about the trail. She was the accuser in the trail. She said that Tom Robinson rapped her, so then she is questioned by Atticus and about if she ever talked to Tom Robinson before. Then more questions about the crime. Later Atticus asks about if she has any friends and she get's confused about the question. Turns out that she doesn't have any friends. Later she points and yells at Tom Robinson and says he is the one that rapped her. Then Atticus asks if he can stand up and he does but one of his arms, the left one, is all shriveled up. Then The judge calls for a recess and that concludes chapter 18.

In the nineteenth chapter of To Kill a Mockingbird Tom Robinson is called up to be questioned. Atticus asks about his side of the story and he tells. He said that he has been over to their house before and the reason being to help them out. Then he says that he helps her out for free because he knows she can't pay him. Then one day he went over to help her out but this time it was inside. He had to fix a door and then once he was done she was behind him and started kissing up on him and he didn't like it. Then her Dad saw, Mr Ewells, and he ran because he was scared. Then he is asked if he can choke a women, Tom Robinson said yes. Then Atticus starts going over what happened and Dill starts to cry and Scout sees him out. Concluding chapter 19.

In the twentieth chapter of To Kill a Mockingbird we start where Dill is crying. Then Mr. Dolphus Raymond went to comfort Dill to stop crying. He tell him to drink out of his brown paper bag with a straw and when Dill does, he smiles. He said that in the bottle that's in the bag is just coca cola. Scout confused asks why and that she thought it was booze. He said that he wants to give a fake reason on why he hangs out with black people instead of white people as a white man himself. He want's to make people think that he's not in his right mind by being a drinker but it turns out he isn't much of one. Then Scout and Dill thank him for the drink and go back into the court to see Atticus's final remakes to the jury. Atticus when talking to the jury did something that he never did, which was take some of his cloths off, like suit jacket and pocket watch and stuff and got down to their level. He themn gave kinda big speech and basically told them to say that Tom Robinson is not guilty. Then which concludes chapter 20.

In the twenty-first chapter of To Kill a Mockingbird where Cal shows up to the trail to give Atticus a letter from his sister. The letter was that the children where missing and she hasn't seen them since 1. Atticus worried asks if he can delay the trail to look for his kids but Judge Taylor says that his kids are up in the Negro stands and points to them. Atticus get them down and is angry and send them home for supper. But Scout, Jem and Dill get to come back after supper because the jury is deciding. After dinner the kids come back, the jury has made a verdict. Guilty. Atticus in defeat left the courthouse with his head down. But the African Americans stand up in thanks and love. Which concludes chapter 21.
To Kill a Mockingbird summary chapter 22
In the twentysecond chapter of To Kill a Mockingbird Jem started off the chapter crying, anger crying and saying what happened was right. That being Tom Robison being found guilty. Then they get back to the house and go to bed after a quick discussion about what happened. Then when they get up in the morning the table is full of food. Atticus asks where all the food came, and Cal answered saying that she found it on the back porch and it’s form the American American community and it’s all out of thanks for what he did for Tom. Atticus tell them to not do it again because times are tough but he is thankful. Then Atticus leaves out the door to go to work. Then when Jem and Scout go out Miss Maudie calls for them to come to her house. There is cake and they eat. When eating Miss Maudie told the kids that people were born and Atticus is one of them. Then Jem asks who else tried to help Tom Robinson and Maudie said that his friends did and the judge of the case. Then when Jem and Scout leave they meet up with Dill and then Dills aunt called for him back to go into the back yard saying that there’s danger coming. What she meant by that is this morning Bob Ewell stopped Atticus and spat in his face and told him that he’d get him if it took the rest of his life. Which concludes chapter 22.

In the twenty-third chapter of To Kill a Mockingbird the family talks about what Bob Ewell did to Atticus and Atticus excused it say that he probably destroyed the last bit of credibility he had during that trial. Then later on Jem talks about how juries shouldn't exist and that it should all be left up to the judge. In the same conversation Atticus says that one of the Cunningham was in the jury and if there were two of them that it'd be a hung jury. Then Scout asks if Walter Cunningham would be able to come over for dinner. Then Aunt Alexandra said no because they're "unclean" or "dirty". After that conversation Jem says he's rowing hair, but Scout doesn't see it but just agrees. Scout and Jem talk about folks, Jem says there're 4 kinds. But Scout says just one, folks. Which then concludes chapter 23.
To Kill a Mockingbird summary chapter 24
In the twenty-fourth chapter of To Kill a Mockingbird Jem and Dill go off to swim because Dill didn't know how to. Since Scout has no other friends to hangout with, she mostly hung out with Cal and Miss Maudie. But Aunt Alexandra has a tea party or a missionary group meeting. In the meeting they talk about a group of people that are suffering. Even when they have people around them that are suffering and they are not doing anything about it, that group is the African Americans. Then they say how all their "darkies" are all low and sad because of the case. Then the people said that they would have fired them if they kept it up. During the meeting Atticus came in and asked Alexandra to join him, so Scout also followed her as well. Atticus told them that Tom Robinson is dead. He was shot 17 times, he was trying to escape because he had lost all hope. Atticus asks Cal to go with him to the Robinson's house to tell his wife the news. Which then concludes chapter 24.

In the twenty-fifth chapter of To Kill a Mockingbird Atticus goes to tell Tom Robinson's wife that he died. When she was told she collapsed and Atticus brought her inside and Cal stayed but Atticus left. We learned who Mr. B.B. Underwood is, which he is in charge of the newspaper. He really took it hard the fact that Tom died and he was really bitter. Which concludes chapter 25.

In the twenty-sixth chapter of To Kill a Mockingbird Scout's class has to do a current event which is one you take a piece of the news paper and read it to the class. Then they go on about a certain news paper and how it's bad, then about how some parts of the town's kids are better treated. Later they talk about Hitler and how he's killing so many Jews and Their teacher says that America is a democracy and that it has no predigest against others. But Germany is a dictatorship and how they want to kill Jews. Some asks why they are being killed if they are white. The teacher says that she doesn't know and it's tragic how they are always being killed and bullied. Even when the same thing is happening to the African Americans. Scout goes on later in the day and asks about why the world is unfair and then she brings up the case. Then Jem gets mad and tells her not to bring it up ever again. Scout was so surprised that she went on over to Atticus and he told her that Jem is just holding onto the feelings and later in time will be able to cope with the case because Tom lost. He states that after that he will become his normal self again. Which then concludes chapter 26.
To Kill a Mockingbird summary chapter 27
In the twenty-seventh chapter of To Kill a Mockingbird we learn that Bob Ewell gets a job but then loses it due to laziness. Then Mr. Link Deas gives Tom Robinson's wife a job because he feels empathy for her late husband. Then once Helen Robinson has a job Bob Ewell kinda follows her down till she leaves his property. The reason why that he follows her is because the only way to the Mill, which is where she works, is through his property. Mr. Link Deas tells off Bob that he shouldn't follow her and that he is scum. Then later we find out that Scout is in a pageant. She is dressed as a ham and will jump out when someone says pork.
To Kill a Mockingbird summary chapter 28
In the twenty-eight chapter of To Kill Chapter Mockingbird it's Halloween and Scout is going to the pageant and she's a ham. Later they get scared by Cecil Jacobs when they pass by the Radley house. Once they get to the pageant, Scout is called up but she kinda day dreams then runs up on stage while people laugh because of her late show up. When the pageant ends the women is charge yells at Scout for running her pageant. Scout at one point forgets her shoes. After Scout and Jem walk their way back home and hear footsteps behind them. Scouts costume get's stabbed and she hears grunting and fighting noises behind her. She also smelt stale whiskey. Jem is injured and is taken inside by Scout and a man. They call a doctor and take care of Jem. Bob Ewell is later found dead. Which concludes chapter 28.

In the twenty-ninth chapter of To Kill a Mockingbird Mr. Tate, May comb's sheriff, get called over and interviews Scout about what happened and she tells him. The chapter is mostly about the after math of what happened that night. Scout tells Mr. Tate about how she forgot her shoes and then how she felt her costume get stabbed. Then Jem getting pulled and hearing fighting noises. But then later she sees Boo Radley for the first time. Which concludes chapter 29.
To Kill a Mockingbird summary chapter 30
In the thirtieth chapter of To Kill a Mockingbird the doctor says hi to Boo Radley like he said it every day of his life. Then later on Atticus and Tate start talking about what happened. Atticus is anxious about knowing that Jem killed someone and how the whole town should know so it's aout in the air. But then Mr. Tate was saying that Jem didn't kill him, and that he fell on his knife. After the two of them hashing it out Mr. Tate says that he knows every crime that happened and that Bob Ewell fell on his knife. Which leads to him wining the argument. Then Mr. Tate walks inside and Atticus follows and thanks Boo for saving his kids. What that all means is that Bob Ewell didn't fall on his knife but was killed by Boo to save the kids, and Mr. Tate doesn't want all the publicity going to him. Which concludes chapter 30.
To Kill a Mockingbird summary chapter 31
In the last and final chapter of To Kill a Mockingbird Scout brings Boo around the house by holding his hand. Mr. Tate and the doctor leave, and the doctor says hell come back in the morning to check on him. She leads him to Jem's room while he is asleep with with something over his arm. Boo kinda touches him and squeezes her hand indicating he wants to leave the room. Both Scout and Boo walk to the front door and Scout tells Boo to walk her out. Because Boo wants to go home. Once they get to the Radleys he walks inside and is never seen again. Scout turns around and sees the whole neighborhood form a different perspective and gets flash backs from her whole life. Once she get's back into the house she sits with Atticus as he reads. He reads a book about the Grey Ghost which is kinda symbolizes the whole book. Scout drifts off and Atticus carries her to her bed and put her in her pjs. She falls asleep, and the book comes to an end.
