So far these are the books I read for this year...
So far this year I have read Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets by J.K. Rowling. I read this book for my banned book project which you can lean more about through going to my banned book page. My favorite part about this book is the magic. The reason why it is my favorite is because I've always loved magic and to me it's the coolest thing! I saw empathy in the book from Dumbledore, I saw it because Harry was being blamed for things he didn't do. I would fully recommend this book to anyone that like the world of magic! It's an amazing story and the magic in it is just so cool!
This year for class we all read 12 Angry Men by Henry Fonda. The reason I read this book is because we had to read it for a class project. My favorite part of this book would have to be that 11 out of the 12 jurors think that the boy who "did it" and by did I mean committed murder. But then there is one juror, number 8, who doesn't think the boy is guilty. I see empathy in the 8th juror because of the boys upbringing. I would fully recommend this book to anyone. it talks about racism, the Justice System, and about people and a lot about being very aware and listing to facts.
The author of The House On Mango Street is Sandra Cisneros. The reason why we read this book is because for class reasons. The class reasons are because we were writing vignettes and this book is full of them. We got inspiration from this tremendous book to write our vignettes. One of my favorite parts of this book is the poetry and the descriptive langue she uses. Some places were I can see responsibly in this book is where, Esperanza the main character has to look out not only for sister but also herself. She has to know right from wrong because of the people she knows and things she has seen. I would recommend this book to people. But you have to have a certain taste to like this book.
I am the author of Chronicle Memories of a Kid With Sun burnt Eyes. I feel very proud of this work that I made I want people to read what I made. Some parts that I am very proud of is the vignette The Barn with a Grey Roof and Cherry Exterior. I worked really hard on the story and I know it paid off. Another is the title, I think it's very unique and I haven't seen one like it. But if I could work on some parts it would have to be make my vignettes more poetic. The reason why is I feel like my book can be more poetic because I feel it would have been more interesting and fun. Here is some of my writings.
The Old Barn With a Grey Roof and a Cherry Exterior
It started off in the year 2017 and it was the end of summer on the day of the rehearsal dinner. We all went down to the humid state of Arkansas because my oldest cousin was getting married and my whole family went to celebrate. The wedding took place at an old barn with a grey roof and a cherry exterior. There was a large lake just 20 yards away from the barn. With the lake came a canoe, and with a canoe came bad ideas.
My other cousin, Ansen, who was also at the rehearsal dinner and who is only four months older than me, we both wanted to see the lake first thing when we got to the rehearsal dinner. We begged our parents to let us go down to the lake, but with good intentions, they said no. We then had to do exhausting labor of moving things from point a to point b until we could do anything remotely fun. We heard thunder and saw inky clouds, but since we are native Californians we didn’t think it’ll rain, forgetting we are halfway across the country up north where rain is seen regularly. After hours of begging and hard work for us to go to the lake, our parents finally let us go.
“I think I should sit in the back with the paddle,” I said. “Okay, I’ll just take photos,” Ansen responded. We started paddling in the clear blue lake and looking around at the beautiful area that surrounded us. A roaring waterfall noise made way into our ears. Ansen and I tried to pinpoint where the noise was coming from, but we decided it was in the back of the lake so we started to paddle. I felt a bump in the water when I was stalking the waterfall. I looked at my left side, then my right, only to see a big black creature submerging deeper and deeper. I shook the feeling off my shoulder and carried on towards the waterfall. The noise of it was obnoxiously loud, and we floated in the water in awe of the elegant waterfall. But then we heard a, plop, plop, plop and felt the sky’s tears on us, then booming thunder. Ansen and I let out a girl-like scream and started paddling to the dock. The rain becoming heavier and more fierce which got us terrified and frightened. Ansen, only having his hands used them so paddle in the water to get us to the docks, which were more than halfway across the lake. We screamed, paddled and laughed our way towards the docks. Finally, we started to see the barn with the grey roof and red exterior. Then we heard lightning close by, Ansen grabbed the paddle out of my hand, and with a snarky tone said, “IAN! You paddle too slow, and you’re going to kill us both!” as he was paddling towards shelter.
We saw both of our dads come out, laugh at us, and strolled back into the barn. Ansen that day was wearing a fully white shirt, so by now, it was practically see-through. I remembered the big black creature in the lake and quickly told my cousin. That only made us more scared and paddle ever so faster. We laughed between the screaming and screamed between the laughing. When we reached the docks we tied up the boat and ran inside the barn. When we got inside our whole family was laughing at us and we laughed too. Ansen, my parents, cousins, and the rest of the family and I laughed until the rain stopped about our rainy adventure.
Gold Ingots
Government. That’s what we made in Minecraft. A fully functioning, tax creating, fool-proof government. Me as Sheriff, Ansen as President and, my friend Peyton as Judge. We all thought it couldn’t be done. As the sheriff, I put the criminals in jail and keep the beautiful Boomer City safe from threats. Ansen as our President keeps the laws and he creates them as well, he makes all these laws with the intention of the people’s safety. Peyton judges all the trials and says whether or not a person should be banned, kicked, or put in jail. He is the admin of our great city.
As sheriff, I’ve seen lots of things happen. I’ve seen a man single-hanged break out of jail three times. I’ve had to then put him in jail three times. I’ve also taken place of judge and put citizens into jail for their dreadful acts. I was once given the power of an admin and put a man into jail for his crimes against the good people of the server. So far I have been sheriff twice, and I have done the best job at it.
Ansen our president has done great things for the good of our shimmering city. He has done actions such as lowering taxes, feeding the poor, trying to find out the terrorist of the server is and doing so much more. He has taken us away from bad political standpoints and has put us in the right direction. He deserves the spot more than anyone and I hope he can do more for our dazzling sever.
Peyton our judge is one of the highlights of the server. The number of stupid cases he’s dealt with and somehow manages to get through amazes me. He’s the one keeping our city safe with his supreme rule. He’s also the admin which makes him the most powerful. Peyton has even put one of our previous presidents in jail and has done much more.
Now after all that high talk of our server, you must think it’s stupid. Well, it might just be, but to me, it’s what highlights my day. The countless laughs I’ve had because of my friends and this game always fills me with joy. This government we have is one of the biggest things my friends and I have done. Yes, there are times when it falls out of order but that’s okay. Because these are some of the memories that I am going to treasure for the rest of my life. These are the highlights of them, and they’ll stay that way.
