Our Project
Our project Keepin' it real started off with going to the Museum of Contemporary Art. We went down there for a field trip to learn what Contemporary is. The reason why we had to learn what it is, is because we had to make Contemporary and it had to include perspective with it. We then went on 9th grade retreat which you can read on one of my pages. When we were on our trip we had to try to make ideas for what we wanted to make and we talked about them and then decided on what we wanted to make. My project group member which you can see in the photos were, Angel C, Livia I, Priscilla L, and I myself Ian B.
Our first idea was to make a pile of cloths representing success with cloths and a crown on top. We had to create a slide show showing our ideas for what to make. The curators which we had to present to didn't really like the idea that much, so then we had to go back to the drawing board. Then of our group members, Livia, came up with an idea to showcase the opioid epidemic that was happening in America. She got the idea form CNN 10 which is a program we watch every Wednesday. Then we created sketches of the work we wanted to make. Then when the curators came back, we presented our new idea and they seemed to like it. We then followed through with our plans to only to come out with our final project, which you can see bellow.
The pills are Placebos so they have no effect. What the pills represent are the opioids that we talked about. The house shows the effects of opioids, then how everything can look normal but inside every thing can be collateral damage.

Artist Statement
Our creation is to show how much the Opioid crisis is affecting a large portion of America. Our idea is an infamously large problem that we have been facing for years. As of right now, there is a great number of people suffering from the opioid crisis. The focal point of our project is to warn and acknowledge the large opioid problem that is there, but no one talks about.
Our art piece is called Collateral Damage.
